The Maharaja Sayajirao University Of BarodaThe Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda set up under the patronage of Maharaja Sayajirao of Vadodara state, is the only English medium University in the state. Presently it has over 33,500 students on its rolls and has 13 faculties in different disciplines. Out of them 12 faculties facilitate doctoral studies. 121 gold medals for outstanding performances are awarded in various fields in these faculties every year. The faculties are: 1.Arts 2.Science 3.Education and Psychology 4.Commerce 5.Technology and Engineering 6.Management Studies 7.Fine Arts 8.Performing Arts 9.Home Science 10.Medicine 11.Law 12.Social Work 13.Journalism and Communication The University also supports the following Centres: Smt. Hansa Mehta Library: This library presently holds a collection of 661,592 titles and 556 newspapers and journals. It has two big reading rooms and one research carrel for research students that are open from 8:00 A.M. in the morning to 10:00 P.M. in the night. Oriental Institute: The main work of the Institute is research and publication of Important unpublished works on all subjects relating to Oriental studies in general and Indology in particular. All India and Central Services Training Centre: It gives training to students appearing in Mains and Preliminary Exams of Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Computer Centre: This year it completed its eigth year of functioning. It hosts of Nelco farce 20D multiuser, multitasking computer system. A new computer system consisting compaq server with 10 nodes and Novell Network Platform is planned to be installed shortly. Health Centre: The university has its own health care centre. The services offered are preventive, investigative and creative. Pre-employment medical check ups, immunisation are some of the routine activities. It was served 885 times in the area of gynecology, 499 in orthopaedy, 830 in Opthalmology, 406 in ENT and 490 in dermatology during the year 1997-98. General Education Centre: There is a centrally located General Education Centre which is host of activities such as Cultural Programmes, Meetings, Seminars, Conference, Symposiums, Open recruitment examinations from Railways, Banks and Telecom Department besides the usual classrooms for some of the Post Graduate courses. It also houses the IGNOU (Baroda) centre in the Evening time. University Employement Bureau: It keeps track of the unemployed students, vacacies and searches appropriate candidate from the vacancies.It also organises vocational guidance and employment programmes. University Publications Sales Unit: This department handles publication and sale of books, past examination question papers by zeroxing, handbooks, service books, electorals, etc. National Social Science Information Centre: It takes care of conferences, journals, workshops, etc. in the field of social science. The University Press: The University Press is responsible for printing all the documents of the university including examination papers, answer books, minutes of meeting of senate, questionnaires, magazines, pamplhlets, certificates, prospectus, admisssion forms, examination forms, letter heads, receipt books, etc. Activities of NSS and NCC: National Service Scheme (NSS): This scheme was launched in the year 1969 with the objective of "Education through Community Service". The scheme organises many campaigns under its regular activities and special campaign programmes. National Cadet Corps (NCC): It is one of the biggest youth forums which brings the virbrant students together and guides them in a proper direction so that they can play a constructive role in the development of the country. Besides Military Training, they have an opportunity for adventurous activities which widen their horizon and keep them mentally and morally fit. The students do Para Sailing, Gliding, Para Dropping, Training Camps, National Integration Camps, Rock climbing and Mountaineering. TOP |
