The MBA Programme

THE SELECTION
The MBA programme of this faculty has been approved by the
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
The rigorous selection procedure consists of a written aptitude
test, group discussion and personal interview, which culminates
in the induction of 40 students. The size of the batch is kept
intentionally small in order to foster a close association
between the students and the faculty and to generate
cohesiveness amongst the students. There is no reservation of
any kind (including reservation for home university students)
except as required statutorily by the government.

THE PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES
During the first year, sixteen compulsory courses make up a
common schedule for the entire class. This common scheduling
helps generate cohesiveness amongst the students and stimulates
an atmosphere where group decisions and group interactions
become essential. The curriculum is well structured and highly
demanding. During the second year, the students study five
compulsory courses in addition to the five subjects from their
area of specialization.

THE PEDAGOGY
The teaching method is interactive and participatory in nature.
Apart from regular lectures where theory is supplemented by
case studies, students are required to make presentations and
undertake field assignments. The students acquire skills in
marketing, finance, operations management, accounting,
organizational behaviour, human resource management,
economics, and statistics, among other areas.

The programme, however, requires that a solid base in all areas
of business be established in the first year, prior to
specialization. This inculcates in the students, the ability
to function in realistic business situations, that calls for a
multitude of skills and the application of concepts learned in
a business course.

THE EXTERNAL INTERACTION
At the end of the first year, all the students have to undergo
a summer training in an organization in their area of choice
for a period of eight weeks. This exercise enables the students
to get a firsthand experience and insight into the organization
and the business environment. The students also undertake a
comprehensive Grand Project for a period of eight weeks during
their fourth semester.
