MBA Programme and Programme Structure

M.S.Patel Institute of Management Studies The MBA programme of this faculty has been approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

The teaching method is interactive and participatory in nature. Apart from regular lectures where theory is supplemented by case studies, students are required to make presentations and undertake field assignments. The students acquire skills in marketing, finance, operations management, accounting, organisational behaviour, human resource management, economics, and statistics, among other areas.

The programme, however, requires that a solid base in all areas of business be established in the first year, prior to specialisation. This inculcates in the students the ability to function in realistic business situations, which call for a multitude of skills and the application of concepts learned in a business course.

During the first year, sixteen compulsory courses make up a common schedule for the entire class. This common scheduling helps generate cohesiveness amongst the students and stimulates an atmosphere where group decisions and group interactions become essential. The curriculum is well structured and highly demanding. During the second year, the students study five compulsory courses in addition to the subjects from their area of specialisation.

At the end of the first year, all the students have to undergo a summer training of eight weeks in the area of their choice. This exercise enables the students to get a first-hand experience and insight into the organisation and the business environment. The students also undertake a comprehensive Grand Project for a period of eight weeks during their fourth semester.
